The IPPA Book of Rules establishes the official rules and regulations for Para Pickleball worldwide. Published by the International Para Pickleball Association (IPPA), it covers Para Pickleball classification, playing rules, Wheelchair Para Pickleball , Standing, Dwarf-Short Stature, Intellectual Disabilities and Cerebral Palsy categories, competition regulations and athlete safety. 

Additional Bounce Rule — PP42, SLA-AK and DLA-AK

The Additional Bounce Rule may be permitted within the context of the IPPA Classification System when an athlete’s functional mobility limitation significantly impacts their ability to reach, recover, and return the ball within the standard bounce requirement. Eligibility for this rule will be determined through a functional assessment and competition observation, adhering to the guidelines set forth in the Para Pickleball Rules and Pickleball Regulations. For athletes classified as Standing PP42, SLA-AK, and DLA-AK, the Classifier will make the final decision on whether an Additional Bounce is necessary, based on the Player’s demonstrated functional limitations rather than solely on their classification designation. This decision shall be documented and implemented consistently throughout the competition.
